Wesdome-Eagle River Golden Opportunity Award
Awarded to a full-time undergraduate first year student who self-identifies as Indigenous with an interest in the Mining Industry. Eligible students can be enrolled in one of the following faculties: Business Administration, Engineering, Science and Environmental Studies, or Natural Resources Management. Preference will be given to students who originate from school boards within the Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma and Northern Ontario region with first preference given to students who originate from Wawa Ontario, Michipicoten First Nation or Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg (Pic Mobert First Nation). The successful recipient will also be required to submit a written response (250 word max) to the question: “What interests you about a career in mining?”
The successful recipient will have an opportunity to be employed at the Eagle River Mine as a summer student in the summers after 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year. The successful recipient must contact Wesdome Eagle River Mine HR in February to be considered and plan for their work placement.

Wesdome Gold Mines is a Canadian gold producer with two operating mines; Eagle River Mine, approximately 115kms NW of Wawa, Ontario and Kiena Mine in Val d’Or, Quebec. Headquartered in Toronto, Wesdome offers a wide range of career paths in mining, spanning operations and maintenance, engineering and geology, environmental and human resources as well as supply chain, finance and more. This award not only provides financial support but also includes a direct opportunity for summer employment at the Eagle River Mine, aligning each recipient with a role that reflects their interest and field of study.
