Award Background
Established by Dr. Laure Paquette (Professor Emerita, Political Science) in honour of her aunt, Marie-Reine St-Aubin. Marie-Reine was taken out of school at the age of 14 to work as an unpaid domestic in lieu of board and fees at the high school where her brother, Dr. Paquette’s father, was educated. He went on to become a professional engineer and all his children attended university. None of Marie-Reine St-Aubin’s children did. Dr. Paquette here commemorates the fact that she owes her education and academic career to her aunt’s early sacrifice, a sacrifice to which her aunt herself never mentioned.
