Margaret Alice Black Award

Originally established in 1978 by Mr. Bernard I. Black, Q.C., a barrister and solicitor in Thunder Bay, in memory of his mother, Margaret Alice Black. Margaret graduated from college in 1909 and became a qualified teacher in 1911. She came to reside in Fort William (now Thunder Bay) in 1913 where she raised her family. Education was of the utmost importance to her. Awarded on the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty of Education or designate, to a 1st year student on the basis of financial need and overall high academic standing. The student’s overall high school final mark will be used.
