Blakes Scholar Award
Established in 2017 by Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP to recognize students in the J D program at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law whose past experience of working to strengthen diversity and inclusion will enable them to advance these values in the Faculty of Law and ultimately in the legal profession.
A gift of $5,000 will be awarded annually to a second-year law student who in their first year obtained an academic standing in the top 10% of the law school class and demonstrates Financial need. Additional selection criteria may include membership in a historically disadvantaged group as outlined in the Ontario Human Rights Code, involvement in the community, participation in extracurricular activities in the University or at Law School, and whether a student has multiple responsibilities and limited support. The recipient of this award will be known as the 2nd Year Blakes Scholar.
Additionally, a gift of $5000 will be awarded annually to a 3rd Year Blakes Scholar. Preference will be given to a third-year law student who was the previous 2nd Year Blake Scholar, who continues to demonstrate financial need, and in their second year obtained an academic standing in the top 20% of the law school class. Additional selection criteria may include membership in a historically disadvantaged group as outlined in the Ontario Human Rights Code, involvement in the community, participation in extracurricular activities in the University or at Law School, and whether a student has multiple responsibilities and limited support.
