Dr. Arjun P. Aggarwal and Mrs. Mithilesh Aggarwal Family Award

Dr Arjun P. Aggarwal first established this perpetual award in 1996 in honour of his father, Ch. Ranjit Singh Aggarwal and his brother, Advocate Gajanand Aggarwal both encouraged him and were guiding forces in his endeavours.
Dr. Aggarwall was a professor of Human Rights and Industrial relations, a labour arbitrator and human rights consultant. He received his Masters of Law (LL.M) from Northwestern University, his Doctorate in Law (J.S.D.) from the University of Illinois and completed his post-doctorate fellowship at the University of Michigan. He has authored several books and articles on sexual harassment, discrimination, and workplace investigations. He was a member of the Canadian Human Rights tribunal, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Police Arbitration Commission, and various other boards and commissions. Dr. Aggarwal has been widely acknowledged as Canada’s leading authority on sexual harassment and a pioneer in his field. His works have been frequently quoted by the courts, human right tribunals and has also been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada.

This award is to be granted annually to three full-time students entering their third year at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law on the basis of academic excellence (minimum overall average of 80%) exemplary and considerate behaviour, service to the law school or broader community, and financial need. Students should demonstrate a passion for human rights and/or Labor Relations. Preference shall be given to permanent residents or first-generation Canadians from India who meet the above criteria.
Award applicants must complete a Lakehead University scholarship application and an essay describing how they meet the criteria above. Each award recipient will forward an acknowledgement letter to the award contact.
