Joyce Hodgins Memorial Award for Nursing

Established in 2020 to the memory of Joyce Hodgins, this award recognizes the importance of nurses as part of Canada’s health care system and encourages improved health services in under-serviced communities and regions of Canada.
It will be awarded to students in the first or second year of the Lakehead University Nursing program who have indicated a desire to work with remote or under-serviced communities. Consideration will be given to financial need and academic standing. The award also champions diversity and inclusiveness, with preference given to candidates who have self-identified as a member of an underrepresented group. For the purpose of this award, “an under-represented group” is defined as being a person of Indigenous descent, a racialized or visible minority, or a person with a disability.
