Frederick F Gilbert Second Chance/Late Bloomer Bursary

Established in 2010, in honour of Dr. Frederick Gilbert, President and Vice-Chancellor of Lakehead University from 1998 to 2010. This award was established by his friends in recognition of his tenure at Lakehead University and his significant contributions during that time, including the establishment of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and building of the Advanced Technology & Academic Centre (ATAC). This Bursary is awarded to provide financial support to a third or fourth year honours student who attained 75%+ average in their second or third year and overcame personal and academic challenges in their first or second year in order to achieve their true ability in an academic environment. A Lakehead University Fred Gilbert Student Bursary Application for Canadian Students is required.As part of the application process, applicants must explain what caused them to preform at such different levels and it is hoped that these personal accounts will inform the University as to reasons why students should be given more than one opportunity to show their true ability in an academic environment. Only one award will be made per individual student.
