William and Mary Jane Chambers Memorial Scholarship

Established by Margaret Chambers MacDonald, and Thomas Chambers, in memory of their parents William (1896-1975) and Mary Jane (1907-2014) Chambers of Kakabeka Falls. William and Mary Jane (nee Swalwell) were pioneer residents of O’Connor Township and believed strongly in the importance of education. Both were students at the first log school houses in the area. Mary Jane was born in O’Connor, living there for almost 107 years. William served with the Canadian Cavalry Brigade in W.W.I. The couple took great pleasure in the fact that each of their four children graduated university. Awarded to an entering full-time student enrolled in any program based on high academic standing. Preference will be given in the following order; to a student from one of the municipalities in the District of Thunder Bay (outside of the City of Thunder Bay) or Northwestern Ontario.
