Sylvia Horn Scholarship/Award in Dance
Awarded to an entrance student, in any program. The recipient will provide evidence of participation in dance. This could include high school drama productions, community theatre, dance performance groups, or festival dance competitions. Financial need will also be considered.
An application form is required.
Award Background
Sylvia Young (née Horn) was a Dance teacher in the Thunder Bay area. A dancer from a young age, Sylvia honed her talents globally, studying in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and London, England. Having studios in both Port Arthur and Fort William allowed her to have a wide sphere of influence over her many years instructing. Local dance programs flourished under her tutelage, and she was responsible for the creation of the Lakehead Lionette Twirling Corps and the Chapple Santa Claus Show. Her legacy of supporting dance lives on through this award.
